In many instances our first contact in a health community is with
clinicians who are passionate about maintaining and improving the
service they offer. Even in those cases where the Trust or the PCT
was the initial contact our commitment remains the same – to work in
close partnership with clinicians.
Clinical staff are those with the real expertise, the closest
relationship to the patient and the in depth knowledge of the latest
developments in technology and practice. It would be unthinkable
therefore, not to insist on clinicians being central to our
clinical, management and business models.
Our clinical models are tailored to the type of service and the
needs of the local population but are essentially agreed with the
local clinicians through a series of workshops and seminars. The model
is multi-disciplinary and team based, with a strong emphasis on
outcome measurement.
The management model is one of participation and engagement. Each
venture may be structured differently according to the local
circumstances but the key principle is that clinicians are in the
‘driving seat’. We have moved radically away from the model of the
Clinical Director in many hospitals where it was simply done on a
rotation basis. Instead we appoint to proper substantive roles,
according to ability, and then pay appropriate commercial salaries.
The business model we use is based on the principle of ‘goal
alignment’. In other words we put in place incentives which make the
success of the centre, the common goal of the clinicians, managers,
support staff and administrators. This means that clinical staff
maximise their personal income and simplify their working life as a
result of partnering with Euromedic UK.Case Study - Oncology
In an ‘out-of-London’ location Euromedic UK has established a collaborative relationship with a group of clinical oncologists. This will enable us to develop jointly, a ‘state-of-the-art’ private diagnostic and oncology clinic to serve insured and self-paying patients. We expect to offer spare capacity to the NHS too. The clinic will include PET-CT and chemotherapy capability and will be designed to help doctors maximise their own businesses as well as create much needed local capacity.
